Lorraine McLaughlin Obituary

MCLAUGHLIN
Lorraine Ann Maher McLaughlin is Home. On the evening of December 7, 2011, Lorraine's life of honor and virtue here ended peacefully, and the eternal life in which she trusted began. For the past five years, she faced head-on her disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, with characteristic grace and courage. Her family celebrated her 56th birthday on July 29. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Lorraine's happy childhood continued in Mission Hills, Kansas and Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan. She attended the University of Kansas where she was a member Gamma Phi Beta, and met Rick, whom she married on June 7, 1975. Lorraine is happily united in Heaven with her beloved parents, Judge Thomas A. and Florence Maher, her brother James Maher, and her father-in-law J.R. McLaughlin. She leaves behind the loves of her life: husband Rick, daughter Mary, son Jimmy, daughter-in-law Annette and precious grandson, William. Lorraine was also the baby sister to Thomas Maher (wife Alice), Donna Peake, William Maher (wife Sharon), Elaine Riordan (husband Terry), and Loretta (husband Tom), all of whom survive along with their children and families all of whom Lorraine loved dearly. Her surviving family-by- marriage includes loving brother-in-law Leslie G. McLaughlin (wife Jananne), mother-in-law Bess McLaughlin, and dear cousins Billie Williamson Forrester (husband Mack), Matt Ida (wife Janet), and Karen Brown (husband Ollie), their children and families. By her bold choices in life, (as volunteer with Birthright of Kansas City) children have been given life, (years of work in RCIA in the Church) searching men and women found their Faith, (15 years in interior design at Louis Shanks) countless homes are beautifully adorned and Rick's music ministry was made possible. By far, though, her proudest moments were as Mom to her Jimmy and Mary. Well done, good and faithful servant. In celebration of Lorraine's life, you are invited to the Visitation on Monday, December 12 at 6:00 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at San Fernando Cathedral, One Main Plaza, The Very Reverend Tony Vilano, Rector presiding, and also to her Mass of Resurrection, Tuesday, December 13, 10:30 AM at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles, 111 Barilla Place, San Antonio, Texas 78209, The Most Reverend Gustavo García-Siller, Archbishop of San Antonio presiding. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Lorraine's caregiver, angel and our dear friend Lucy Moreno, Amedisys Hospice, Mike and Deanne Trodden, Billie Williamson, Les and Jananne McLaughlin, Susan Hampton, Matt Ida, Lisa Torres, the faith communities, clergy, and music ministers of St. Gerard and San Fernando Cathedral, his Excellency Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, the Archdiocese of San Antonio and Archdiocesan choir members, neighbors and friends. Your amazing love, prayers, and special care of our needs will never be forgotten. Welcome Home, Lorraine! In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to San Fernando Cathedral, 231 West Commerce, San Antonio Texas 78205, St. Gerard Catholic Church Restoration Fund, 1523 Iowa, San Antonio, Texas 78203, or the Cure PSP Foundation 30 E.
