Lucy Ree Moffat Dodson

Lucy Dodson Obituary

DODSON
Lucy Ree Moffat Dodson went to be with her Lord on Friday, January 23, 2009, at the age of 94. She was born October 6, 1914, in Texarkana, Arkansas, and lived in San Antonio, Texas, for most of her life. Her beloved husband of 67 years, Rev. Osa Dodson, and her cherished daughter, Molly Dodson Gerold, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Dr. Charles G. Dodson and wife, Sue, of Tyler, Texas; daughters, Dr. Rebecca Pickett and husband Dr. Clyde Pickett of Portland, Oregon; Adah Gaylon Voigt and husband, Wayne, of San Antonio, Texas; and Sue Dodson Rook and husband, Charles, of San Antonio, Texas; as well as 18 grandchildren, including spouses; 14 great-grandchildren; very special family members, Carl and Willis Gerold; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lucy Ree touched the lives of hundreds of people through her ministry with Osa at Richmond Avenue Baptist Church, Thelma Baptist Church (later Pyron Avenue Baptist Church), Baptist Temple, and for the last 17 years, at Shearer Hills Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a wonderful, loving mother, a caring friend, and a skilled Bible teacher. One of her most remarkable talents was as a gifted pianist, who could hear a song once and be able to play it. She was instrumental in beginning the Tuesday evening "Singalong" at the Wedgwood Apartments, during which residents enjoyed the old standards, patriotic songs, and hymns. She relished every opportunity to play for anyone who would sing with her, and she could usually play any song anyone requested. Lucy Ree was also very proud of her Scottish heritage. Pallbearers will be grandsons Jeffery Gerold, Stephen Voigt, Derek Dodson, Brady Dodson, Dr. James Bazar, great-grandson Adam Bazar, and nephew Roy Van Cleave. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters Janelle Bazar, Marcia Voigt, Carol Dodson, Lucy Voigt, Allison Gerold, Winnie Dodson, and great-granddaughters Amanda Bazar and Amanda Goodwin. For those desiring, a memorial gift may be made to Shearer Hills Baptist Church "Faith in Action" Building Fund or any charity of your choice. SERVICES
Visitation will be Sunday, January 25, 2009, from 5:30-6:30 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 26, 2009, at Shearer Hills Baptist Church, 12615 US Hwy 281 N. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. You may sign the online guestbook at www.missionparks.com under the obituary section.

It was an honor to help take care of your mom in her last days. Her life story played out as a blessing to her family, friends, and all she laid her hands to....Oh, how I hope to hear someday what she just so recently heard.."Well done, thou good and faithful servant!" God bless all of you.

I consider it a priveledge to be blest by Mrs. Dodson's life. She was my Sunday school teacher at Pyron Ave. Baptist church for many years. She was a blessing and an inspiration to me. May God bless and be with each family member. I am sorry that I was unable to attend the service, I did not find out about it until Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009.

I am thankful for the privelidge of knowing Mrs. Dodson and the entire family. I grew up at Pyron Ave. Baptist Church under the ministry of Osa Dodson, Mrs. Dodson was an inspiration to me and my mom, Gloria Samsel. Although, I have not seen her in many years, I will miss her. She is in a far better place than we are. My prayers are with the family. I am sorry that I missed the service, I did not know about it until after the fact. May God Bless everyone.

Lucy Ree was a wonderful example of a Christian. I grew up with the Dodson family in my dad's church, Richmond Avenue. We won't be able to come to the funeral as we are in West Texas. now.
