MAE JUNE MOORE
June 1, 1926 - August 13, 2025
Mae June Moore, a beacon of grace and faith, passed away at the beautiful age of 99. She bid farewell to this world on August 13th, surrounded by her loving children.
Born on June 1, 1926, in San Antonio, Texas, June was the daughter of Pablo Hinojosa and Elisa Herrera Hinojosa. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and a sixth-generation Texan, tracing her lineage back to José Antonio Navarro and Francisco Ruiz, the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence.
In her younger days, she was affectionately known as June Bug. She graduated from San Antonio Vocational High School (Fox Tech), where she shone academically and served as an officer in the Red Jackets. Her dedication led her to Southwest Teachers College (Texas State University), where she graduated alongside only a handful of women classmates and then embarked on a remarkable 33-year teaching journey.
In 1945, June reunited with a fellow Tech graduate, John Raymond Moore, a hero who had recently returned from the war honored with both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. They married in 1947 and built a loving home together, raising five children.
Even amidst her teaching career in the Edgewood and San Antonio School Districts, June remained dedicated to maintaining a beautiful home.
In her retirement, June enjoyed traveling the world, weekly Bridge games, playing Bunco, and attending numerous church activities. Mamo, as she was lovingly called by the family. was happiest when sharing in the celebrations of her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's' accomplishments.
June is preceded in death by her parents, Pablo and Elisa Hinojosa, her husband of 43 years, John Raymond Moore, her sisters Beatrice Hinojosa and Adelina Lozano, and her brother-in-law Albert Lozano. June is survived by her five children, John Moore (Della May), Cynthia Lopez (David), Judy Parish (Steve), Roberta Hatfield, and Elizabeth Moore-Bodkin, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to oncologists Dr. Gregory Guzley and Dr. Hycienth Ahaneku and to Christus VNA Hospice for their compassionate care.
Her family is especially grateful to have celebrated her 99th birthday with her, surrounded by friends and loved ones – a joyful milestone that reflected the fullness of her life and the love she inspired.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter – St. Joseph Children's Home and to the Hispanic Sports Foundation.
