Marschall Altgelt Obituary
Marschall Stanton Altgelt died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at the age of 57. As he was welcomed into Heaven he grabbed a golf club, started driving balls and the skies poured down golf ball-sized hail to his wife to let her know he was home. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Virginia Lee Stanton and Marschall David Altgelt. Stan is preceded in death by his father and stepfather, Billie J. Reed, his nieces, Taylor Elayne Altgelt and Katie Grennan. He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Drought Altgelt, mother, Virginia Stanton Reed, brother, Mark Denman Altgelt, and two sisters, Gail Dadonne and Catherine Quintard. He is also survived by his wife's daughters, Shelly Kendall Drought, Audrey Drought-Mitchell and son-in-law, Lee Allen Mitchell, and twin grand-daughters, Finley Estelle and Eleanora Francis Mitchell. Additionally, he is survived by nephews Miles Altgelt, Reed and Devon Dadonne, Tyler and Chase Griffin, and nieces Jennifer Grennan and Rhea Griffin as well as numerous close friends across the country and, of course, his constant companion, Freddie. Stan graduated high school in Chatsworth, California and then attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas on a golf scholarship. After his numerous amateur achievements in golf during his four years of college, Stan went on to achieve great success during his seven years of professional golf on the PGA Tour and was affectionately called 'Doggie'. He was also an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting throughout Texas at his favorite places, including Carrizo Springs and Brady, using his own custom-designed and handcrafted guns. Stan has enjoyed spending the last 10 years as an acclaimed golf instructor to numerous amateur and professional players. The true testament to his memory is his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Through God's will, Stan was able to minister to countless others and inspired hope to those around him through his daily efforts to spread God's word. His family and friends remember him for his selflessness and endless courage as he strengthened the lives of all he touched. Everyone will miss Stan's big smile!
