Mary H. Melendez entered eternal rest on February 19, 2022, at the age of 75, surrounded by loved ones in her home. Mary Henrietta was born May 2, 1946, to Eloisa Meléndez Tenorio and Emeterio Perez Tenorio. A San Antonio native, Mary was born at Santa Rosa hospital, baptized at San Fernando Cathedral and attended local schools: Crockett Elementary, Irving and Page Middle Schools and Brackenridge High School. Mary earned an administrative certificate from Durham's Business School and completed coursework at San Antonio College. Mary dedicated 20 years of service to AT&T Communications and was a committed union member of CWA (Communications Workers of America) Local 6143. Mary's interests were reading, listening to music and shopping. Mary was proud of her Native American ancestry- Choctaw and Cherokee Nation. Above all, Mary loved and dedicated herself generously to her family.
Mary is survived by her six children: DeAnna "Dee Dee" Melendez (Charles Ray McMullen), Miguel Marco "Mike" Melendez, Pedro "Pete" Melendez Jr. (Gina Melendez), Emmett Tenorio Melendez, Carla Elise Lopez-Wilkerson (Richard Wilkerson) and Erik Tenorio Melendez (Amanda Melendez). "Quetita" is also survived by her three older sisters: Alice Barron, Yolanda Simard and Sonia Salinas (Narno Salinas) as well as numerous beloved nephews, nieces and cousins.
As of this writing, 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren have all known and affectionately called Mary, "Grandma Queta."
The family is grateful that Mary had the love & compassion in her last years from dedicated family caregivers: DeAnna, Desiree & Angelica Melendez, her sister Sonia, niece Rosalinda Herrera, family friend Hopie Jimenez and Rosy Cardenas from Sister Care.
We would also like to thank the staff at Heart of Texas Hospice and Dr. Patel for the excellent care they provided Mary.
