Meryle Robert Wiemers of San Antonio, 90, passed away Monday, June 21, 2021. Born July 20, 1930, in Hondo, he was the son of Otto Jacob and Emma K. Schulte Wiemers. Meryle graduated from Hondo High School in 1948. He was drafted into the U.S. Army (1951-53) and served at Ft. Bliss in El Paso. Meryle and Shirley Colleen Bendele were married April 16, 1961, and recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. In 1968 he began working at Ft. Sam Houston in Civil Service and retired in 1990. He also worked for Fuller Brush and Watkins. He enjoyed hunting, baseball, reunions and genealogy and loved playing cards with friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Howard Wiemers, Viola Calk, Elbert Wiemers and Laura Wentz.
Survivors are his wife, Shirley; son, Michael (Susan) Wiemers of New Braunfels; daughters, Elaine (Larry) Coyle and Yvonne (William) Thomas, all of San Antonio and Deborah (Christopher) Creech of Round Rock; grandchildren, Victoria, Zachary, Jared and Nicholas Wiemers, Rachel and Trevor Coyle, Jacob (Anne) and Benjamin Creech, and Andrew and Laura Thomas; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann and Michael Joseph Creech; nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Friday, June 25, 6:00-8:00 p.m., Guinn-Horger Chapel, Hondo. Funeral service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 26, Guinn-Horger Chapel, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery. Memorials: New Fountain United Methodist Church, 2980 FM 2676, Hondo TX 78861, or Quihi Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 3901 FM 2676, Hondo TX 78861, or charity of your choice.
