Michael Joseph Tamez

Michael Joseph Tamez, 19, of San Antonio, formerly of Leander, Texas, passed away on December 11, 2016. He was born on September 19, 1997, in Abilene, Texas.

Michael is survived by his mother, Lisa Quiroz and partner Cameron Farah of Leander; father, Michael Anthony Tamez and wife, Katie of San Antonio; sisters, Alexandra Tamez of San Francisco and Lauren Tamez of Austin; grandparents, Leonard and Delores Quiroz of Fort Worth and Bertha Tamez of San Antonio; as well as, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Louis Tamez and aunt Rebecca Quiroz Hoffman.

Michael began schooling at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School in Edmond, Oklahoma. He then attended Divine Redeemer School in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he was an altar server and active in the Boy Scouts. Well loved by his peers, Michael could easily light up a room. Although, at times he struggled with his school work, his family was always there to encourage him and they were all so proud of his accomplishments.
Michael loved to take in the natural beauty of Colorado. With Michael's infectious energy, he loved to hike, bike, camp and climb mountains. Any chance he took, he was outside soaking in the sunshine. He would often have tan lines from his socks after spending hours outside. After moving to Austin, Michael attended St. Helens School in Georgetown, Vista Ridge High School in Cedar Park and Rouse High School in Leander. Michael eventually graduated from the Texas Challenge Academy where he prepared himself for future military service. They helped him discover things in himself that he didn't realise he had- self confidence, ability to complete tasks, honor, and pride. The program challenged him mentally and physically. Seeking his own independence, Michael moved to San Antonio where he would be closer to his father's family.

Michael was incredibly gentle and sensitive. He had a gigantic smile and big laugh. He loved to make people laugh and did so by pulling pranks. He was unique in so many ways. He love to take things apart and to build things that no one thought they could. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

The Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Beck Funeral Home, Cedar Park, Texas. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2016, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Austin, Texas.
