Michael Young Obituary

YOUNG
Michael Patrick Young born October 13, 1954 in Kermit, TX, celebrated his graduation into heaven on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 after fighting a 6 year battle with cancer. Mike moved from West Texas with his family in middle school and made San Antonio his home. He graduated from Churchill High School and attended Texas State University to play basketball. However, he wanted to get married and move on with life, so he followed his heart and joined the SAPD in March of 1975. On June 25, 1976, he married his high school sweetheart, Janice Graham, and vowed to love her with all his heart.and he did. When he joined the SAPD, he took the oath to "Protect and Serve" the city of San Antonio seriously and proudly performed and sacrificed himself physically for 32 years. He loved being an officer because he was making this world a better place for other people and found a deep sense of gratification in serving the public. He held many positions to include patrolman, dispatch, tactical training instructor, helicopter pilot, research and planning and eventually, Detective Investigator. Although a policeman was how he made a living, his life revolved around his wife he adored, his children who he was immensely proud of and 3 grandchildren who brought joy and happiness with every interaction. Other than serving his Lord in whatever he did, nothing was more important to him than his family and was to each of them the, "ultimate protector". He enjoyed fishing at the coast, flying, watching NASCAR, and spending time with his family. Although cancer was his enemy for 6 years, he fought the disease with courage and was blessed with numerous people to carry him through the tough times in the way of physicians, nurses, technicians, family members, friends, but ultimately a God who was his sole source of strength and healing. He is predeceased in death by his parents, Andy and Juanita McClintock, and niece, Laura Fehlis. He is survived by the love of his life of 35 years, Janice, their 2 children and spouses; Chris and Cassy, Sarah and Scott, all of San Antonio. He also leaves behind his 5 precious grandchildren, Hayden , Hayley, Caleb, and 2 yet to be born, mother-in-law, Betty Graham, 4 siblings and their spouses, Linda and Rick Knight, Roseanna Fehlis, Debbie and John Muir, 1 brother and his wife, Tim and Pam McClintock, 2 brother-in-laws and spouses, Ken and Phyllis Graham, David and Mary Graham along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 16th, 2011 at Community Bible Church, 2477 North Loop 1604 East. Interment will follow at Mission Park Burial Park North, 20900 IH 10 West. You may sign the online guestbook at www.missionparks.com, under the obituary section. Janice our deepest sympathy to you and your family in Mike's passing. I was at the Police Oldtimers dinner when they announced Mike had that day passed away and you could see the effect in all of us. Not just because he was a fellow officer but because everyone on the department that knew Mike also knew what a good person he was. Mike was a young fellow officer with me and later worked for me but more importantly he was a friend. I will always respect and cherish the time that I knew him.

Dear Janice and Family, I had the privilege of working with Michael for many years on the SAPD. The last was in the dispatchers office. He was always one of the finest officers in whatever he was assigned to work. May God bless you at this time of sorrow. Carl "Beetle" Bailey SAPD Ret.
