Modesto Colon-Alicea Obituary
Modesto Colon-Alicea, known as 'Tito' to his friends and family, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2004 at the age of 59 in San Antonio, TX. He was born on October 6, 1944 in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico. His parents were Antonio Colon and Leonor Alicea, who preceded him in death. Tito is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mercedes Perez de Colon; three sons, Xavier, a student at UTSA School of Architecture, Leonardo, a student at the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture and Andres, a member of the US Army Reserves and scheduled to attend Our Lady of the Lake University in January 2005 to study English and Secondary Education; sister, Carmen Lizardi of Cuagas, Puerto Rico and an extended family of over 60 brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Tito received an Honorable Discharge from the US Army where he reached the rank of Sergeant and he participated in the Vietnam Counter OffensiveÑPhases II, III, IV and V and the TET Offensive. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, three overseas service bars, and the designation of sharpshooter with a rifle. Tito was a Licensed Message Therapist, a Professional Member of the Federation of Professional Hypnotherapists, and a Professional Member of the Texas Naturopathic Medical Association. His careers also included fire and air rescue, tour guide, security, and private investigations. Tito was a self-taught computer whiz, he enjoyed learning and performing magic tricks, playing pool with his children and their friends, learning about and sharing herbal remedies, exploring philosophical thought and examining world religions. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and violin, singing, and reciting poetry, cooking and hosting family parties, and riding his motorcycle. Rosary will be recited Thursday evening, August 5, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, at Sutton and St. Cloud. A Memorial Mass will be said on Friday, August 6, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul's Catholic Church. At his request, his body will be cremated and will not be interred.
