Myrna Cortez Obituary

Myrna Garcia Cortez
October 23, 1955 - February 8, 2025
Myrna Garcia Cortez passed away peacefully February 8, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by family and friends. She was born October 23, 1955 to parents Evangelina Chapa Garcia and Juan Garcia near Corpus Christi, Texas.

She was the youngest of four children, and grew up near Corpus Christi, Texas. During her childhood, she spent quality time with her family and developed her skills on the tennis court. When she grew older, she settled in San Antonio. It's there she met and married her husband, Abe, and earned her degree from the University of Texas San Antonio. She began working a part time job in Advertising at the San Antonio Light, which ended up becoming an illustrious long term career as she worked her way up to the position of Sales Director in the newspaper industry. She was responsible for creating Best Homes magazine, among many others. During her tenure, her multi-million dollar sales portfolio included managing 30 sales representatives, a myriad of magazines, and calling on a variety of advertising agencies in major cities across the U.S. Upon retirement from the newspaper, she assisted Abe with the family business, Paris Hatters. As co-owner, she was an integral part of the store, creating its first website and logo, as well as handling many responsibilities over the years and ensuring the future of the Paris with her keen business acumen.

In her off time, Myrna loved to travel, watch old movies, and was an avid painter. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and liked to plan evenings out to dinner or the theater for a concert or a Broadway show.

Myrna was a loving wife, an amazing mom, a loyal sister, and a wonderful friend. She will be deeply missed every day, but we will hold our cherished memories of her in our hearts and she will always be with us. She will be remembered for her wit, sense of humor, her beauty (both inside and out), her sage words of wisdom, her work ethic, her creativity, and her fun loving personality.

She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her siblings, Johnny Garcia, Dolores Garcia Farias, and Mary Lou Gannon. She is survived by her husband, Abe Cortez, her daughter, Alexandra Cortez Sledge (Zachary), niece Daniela Schulze (David), nephew Will Gannon (Rachel), and their son Ethan.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 23rd 2pm at Porter Loring Funeral Home Downtown on McCullough Ave.
