Paul Vied Obituary

VIED
Paul Elmont Vied
August 22, 1915
April 30, 2012

Paul Elmont Vied, the youngest of seven children, was born to Drew and Bird Vied in Braggadocia, Missouri on August 22, 1915. He passed Monday, April 30, 2012 in Castroville, Texas. He was 96 years of age. Paul served in three branches of the military throughout World War Il, Korea and Vietnam. Paul lived his life in myriad roles. He was a mechanic, chef, husband, father and soldier. After February 12, 1939, which marked the initiation of his seventy-two year long marriage to Elenora Celestine Cooper, they traveled extensively across the world. They had five children together. Mr. Vied was a proud, admirable and unforgettable man who helped others to the extent of his ability. He was the kind of man who could handle anything that dared to come his way. He retired in San Antonio after twenty-seven years of service in the military. He served in the Missouri National Guard prior to hostilities, the Navy during World War ll, and the Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam
Wars. After retirement, his hard·working friends in the Masonic Lodge, church and neighborhood communities acknowledged Paul for the multi-annual holiday delicacy of fried turkey. Paul is survived by his five children: a daughter, Paula Rudolph, and four sons, Charles, Joe, David and Dana; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, a
brother and five sisters. The family will receive visitors at Mission Park South Funeral Home, 1700 SE Military Highway on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 between six and eight in the evening. Funeral services will be held at Lackland Baptist Church, 2718 Frontier Drive on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at nine-thirty in the morning. Following the funeral services, interment will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The family requests no flowers, but a donation to Lackland Baptist Church in the honor of Paul Elmont Vied.

Dear Vied Family,
Janet and I extend our deepest and most heart-felt Christian sympathy to each of you in the loss of your dad, and our friend, Paul. Sitting with your mother and dad, and then, more recently with Paul alone, was always an enriching experience. I am so blessed to have been their pastor, friend, and admirer. Be aware of our nearness to you during the coming days. God bless you all.
