Phillip Mahan Obituary

PHILLIP LEE "PHIL" MAHAN
October 21, 1944 - October 15, 2025
Phillip Lee "Phil" Mahan, 80, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
Phil was born in Weleetka, Oklahoma, on October 21, 1944, to Geneva and Vilas Mahan. In 1949, at the age of five, he moved with his family to Borger, Texas. He often said, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as soon as I could."
He attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Phillips, Texas and graduated from Phillips High School in 1963. Phil met the love of his life, Mary Joe Krejci, when he was in eighth grade and she was in seventh grade. Phil went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Mary Joe and Phil were married on June 15, 1968, in Borger, Texas, shortly after their graduation from Texas Tech.
Phil began his professional career with Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. His career in the crude oil refining and petrochemical industry spanned 38 years, taking him to Oklahoma City, Houston, and San Antonio, where he retired in petrochemical marketing and trading.
Between 1969 and 1972, Phil served his country with distinction in the U.S. Army. He completed basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, before being stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland. He served as a First Lieutenant in a combat engineering company in Vietnam before returning to civilian life and resuming his career.
Phil enjoyed bird hunting, saltwater fishing, and fly fishing. He was also a tennis player and a golfer. His favorite fishing trips were with his grandchildren, Jillian and Kyle Lewis.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Geneva and Vilas Mahan; his daughter, Christine Elizabeth Mahan; and his brother, Bruce Mahan. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Joe Mahan; his daughter, Diana Mahan Lewis; two grandchildren, Jillian and Kyle Lewis; and siblings Brenda Mahan Collins and Gary Mahan.
A funeral service will be held at Porter Loring Funeral Home, 1101 McCullough Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78212 on Tuesday October 21, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
Those wishing to honor Phil's memory may do so through contributions to MD Anderson Cancer Center or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
