BOOTH
Shreveport, LA - Dr. Raymond R. Booth, 80, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2012. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Point Chapel Assembly of God in Doyline, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Richard Bolt, Pastor and Rev. Lee Nunley, Pastor Emeritus, both of Point Chapel Assembly of God. Interment will follow at Point Chapel Cemetery, Doyline, LA. Born June 4, 1932, to Fred and Florence Booth on their farm outside of Doyline, LA, their son, Raymond Booth, became one of the Webster Parish elite in 1980 by earning his Doctorate in Public Administration from Nova University, Fort Lauderdale, FL. He previously earned two Masters, one in 1979 in Public Administration from Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and the second in 1974 in Education from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. He received two Bachelor of Arts, one in 1961 from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, and the second one from Southwestern Assemblies of God Bible College in Waxahachie, TX. Dr. Booth continued his education from 1992-2004, twelve years, learning Hebrew Language course studies at both The Congregation of Agudath Achim and The Congregation of B'Nai Zion in Shreveport, LA. He served in the U.S.A.F. as an Airman Chaplain Services Specialist. He served in the 10th Air Division under the Alaskan Air Command at Elmendorf Air Force Base near Anchorage, AK. He was transferred to Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio where he was Honorably Discharged in January of 1960. He served altogether for four years from 1952-1956 and was with the Reserves for an additional four years until his honorable discharge. From 1959-1961 he worked for Brown Express in San Antonio, TX as a part-time billing clerk. Dr. Booth was employed by the San Antonio Independent School District from 1961-1987 as a History Teacher at Brachkenridge High School from which he also retired. He was a Sunday School teacher, Worship Leader, and Outreach Minister for 26 years at Highlands Assembly of God Church in San Antonio, TX. He also served as a Prison Minister from 1969-1983 with the Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center, San Antonio, TX. While in Texas, he was ordained as a minister with the Assemblies of God in April of 1976. Upon his retirement, Dr. Booth moved back to Doyline, LA and taught Sunday School from 1987 to 2007 at Point Chapel Assembly of God. He was involved in ministry with the Louisiana Downs Racetrack Chaplaincy from 1987 to 1992 and served as Chaplaincy President from 1990-1992. His leisure interests were woodworking, restoration of antique automobiles, farming, and music. As an accomplished musician, he played all stringed instruments, and in 1961 formed the popular Country Western Band in Texas called the Sundowners. During this time with the Sundowners, he appeared with Meredith McRae (Billy Jo of "Petticoat Junction") and George Lindsey (Goober of the "Andy Griffith Show") on a United Cerebral Palsy telethon in Corpus Christi, TX. After the 1980's he transitioned to Gospel music fulltime. He loved God with all his heart and loved country blue-grass gospel music. He was a member of "The Messengers", a gospel music ministry team, along with his late brother, Albert Booth, fellow friend and minister, Brother Eddie Sowders, with other close friends, too. In 1945, at the tender age of twelve years old, he gave his heart and life to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. This, by far, of all his life's accomplishments is the most important and gives peace to his family and friends who loved him dearly including his wife, Maralyn DiAnne Booth; daughter, Karen L. Booth and her mother, Gloria P. Booth; step-daughter, Lauren T. Coleman; brothers, Jack S. Booth, Jimmy Booth and Joe Booth; and sister, Dixie Booth Coyle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Leon Booth and Florence Norris Booth; sister, Christine Booth Reeve; and brother, Albert Booth. Pallbearers will be Hollis Sharp, David Grove, Gary Coyle, Richard Dick, Dennis Booth and Chris Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Booth, Joe Booth, Jack Booth, Barry Booth, Rickie Reeve, Jr., Rickie Reeve, Sr., Jonathan Booth, Lee Ballentine, Jeffery Booth and Danny Booth.

Raymond was my favorite cousin. I have many fond memories of him when we were young. I remember singing on the radio in Minden,LA on Saturdays. Fun times so many years ago. He is surely singing in Heaven now.

Mr. Booth was my favorite history teacher @ Brackenridge H.S. He made our time with him fun and kept a classroom of teenagers interested in learning about history. What a great life he led!

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Raymond Booth our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Ray. And to Ray it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Ray, you are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Ray's family and loved ones.
