Reavus Mays Obituary

Our beloved father, Reavus C. Mays Col. Retired, passed on peacefully in his sleep on November 15, 2004. Col. Mays was born on a small farm in Mackey Bend, KY, on December 14, 1910. He lived a long, happy and full life. During his 30 year military career he traveled the world and participated in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He served on General MacArthur's staff in Japan. While serving in the U.S. Army, Col. Mays received the Legion of Merit, as well as many other Military Honors. In his second career, Col. Mays worked for Southwest Research Institute for 20 years and retired as Personnel Director. In his later years, he was a partner with his son, Richard A. Mays D.V.M., on his thoroughbred horse farm in Boerne, TX. He was a Mason for over 50 years. Beloved member of the Keystone Sunday School class and Elder Emeritus, Col. Mays served Central Christian Church for over 50 years. He was a Board Member of Blessed Hope Academy and was actively involved with the newest affiliate, TMA Silver Wings of Learning and Creative Arts Middle School. Col. Reavus C. Mays, 93, was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Anne Stewart Archer Mays and granddaughter, Dorothy Lynn Mays Kleck. He is survived by his son, Dr. Richard A. Mays and wife Carol; daughter, Sally Ann Anderson; grandchildren, Suzan Mays Bippert and husband Daryl, Dr. James Scott Mays and wife Dr. Orla Rooney, Stephanie Anderson, Stewart Anderson; great-grandchildren, Eric Bippert, Joshua Bippert and Kaylee Mays. The family is very thankful for the many years of care given our father by Mrs. Sarah Connor, devoted nurse and friend. Services will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Central Christian Church, 720 N. Main, San Antonio, TX. Interment will be Friday, November 19, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at the Barbourville Cemetery, Barbourville, KY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TMA Silver Wings of Learning and Creative Arts, 4766 Research Drive, San Antonio, TX 78240.
