Richard Carrera

Richard "Big Rick" Carrera entered into Heaven on July 4, 2015 at the age of 56. He was born to Canuto Carrera and Alice Salazar on January 25, 1959 in San Antonio, TX. Richard graduated from Harlandale in 1977. He was a devoted employee for S.A.I.S.D for nearly 25 years most recently working at Navarro Academy. In 1994 he was honored as a recipient of the Woodmen of the World Award for his courageous act of saving a young boy from drowning. Richard was a loyal and devoted Spurs and Cowboys fan. His life's work was collecting Harding Black and Alamo Pottery antiques as well as Indian arrowheads and other rare collectables. Rick was an avid guitar musician and lead singer in his own band. Richard was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his spouse of 35 years, Janie Carrera and his sons Richard Carrera, Jr. and Edward James Carrera. He is also survived by his grandchildren Christopher and Zeyla, as well as his siblings Edward Sanchez and Connie Carrera. Visitation will be held at Southside Funeral Home at 6301 S. Flores St. on Friday, July 10th beginning at 9:00 a.m., with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 11:00 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at San Jose Burial Park.
