Richard Martinez Obituary

Richard Martinez
September 6, 1955 - January 20, 2024
Richard Martinez passed away on January 20, 2024. Born September 6, 1955 in San Antonio, Texas, he was a great role model to young people as a teacher, a sports referee, and a devoted father and grandfather. Rick left his career as a Newspaper Editor & Reporter in California, Texas, and Idaho in 1998, to become a schoolteacher. He retired to Las Curses, NM, eventually returning to San Antonio.
Rick is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, son Richard P Martinez, stepchildren Tiffany and George, granddaughter Lisa, and nine additional grandchildren. A private service was held at Funeral Caring Home in San Antonio, on January 26, 2024.

One of my fondest memories of football refereeing was when Rick and I did a year of semi-pro football and we we're doing games in San Diego, Bakersfield and everywhere in between. One Saturday we did a JV and varsity doubleheader in Big Bear and then drove to Lincoln High School in East LA for a semi-pro game.
Long day but I cherish the time and friendship spent with Rick Martinez.
Truly one of the best times in life. Thank you. Brother.

Hey Rick. Remember the Ethnic Hub. Create one up there so we will have an ethnic hub to hang out in when we follow. It was a blast being your friend and admirer.
