Richard M. Peña entered into his eternal rest on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at the age of 79 after his long battle with kidney disease.
Born in San Antonio, TX, on September 25, 1942, to Mr. and Mrs. Guadalupe A. and Trinidad M. Peña (now deceased).
He is survived by ex-wife, Helen Peña and their children, Rita Gallardo, Laura Medina, Dennis R. Peña (Sylvia), Roland Peña (Tammy); ex-wife, Lan Peña and their children, Lily Portales (Sam), Lillian Aburto (Michael); ex-girlfriend and their son, Gabriel Peña (Christina); ex-wife, Patsy Medina and their children, Judy Peña, Richard Peña, Jr.; sisters, Linda Lubin, Irma Douglas, Mary Ruth Perez (Ramon); brother, Tomas Peña; sister-in-law, Mary Jesse Peña; 19 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and numerous aunts, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Miguel Ruben, Guadalupe, Jr., Robert, Eddie; and grandson, Andrew C. Portales.
Richard attended Burbank High School where he graduated in 1960. He attended Palo Alto College in San Antonio and later the University of Houston. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country from 1967-1972 while stationed in Da Nang, Vietnam. After serving his country, he lived in Houston, TX from 1974- 1989. In 1989, he moved back to San Antonio, TX, where he lived and worked until he retired from Bexar County. During retirement, he published five books and made several guest appearances on a Christian radio station.
A viewing will be held at M.E. Rodriguez Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 from 11am-12pm.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 9:15am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX.
