Robert Goff Obituary

Robert B. Goff, Jr.
May 17, 1953 - February 22, 2023
Robert B. Goff, Jr. (Robb) of San Antonio passed away peacefully at his home on February 22, 2023.

He was the most compassionate man, a caring and beloved physician, a loving father, grandfather and brother, a loyal friend.

He was born to Bob & Mary Jane Goff in Houston on May 17, 1953. Childhood adventures with neighborhood kids included commanding a 20-foot-high treehouse, days-long pinecone wars, biking adventures and go karts, family summer road trips, the Memorial High School marching band, and many trips with high school pals. After high school, he attended Vanderbilt University where he made life-long friends.

Robb had wanted to be a Doctor since the earliest questions of "what do you want to be when you grow up". He attended medical school in Guadalajara and participated in the 5th Pathway program in Chicago at Swedish Covenant Hospital. His internship & residency were in Houston at UT Houston Medical School.

Robb and then-wife, Cara Johnson Goff, and their young son, Joel, moved to San Antonio in 1984 where he began his practice of medicine, and in 1986, son Peter was born.

In 1993 he joined Drs. Jerry Winakur & Bradley Kayser at Pasteur Medical Associates, where he remained until his retirement in March 2022.

Robb was honored to care for patients, something he was born to do. He truly valued all these relationships (some spanning 30 plus years and multiple generations). Patients became his friends – he knew their families, their lives and what mattered to them.

Robb also loved life at Caney Creek – the family bay house – skiing, crabbing, grilling and cocktail cruising. From his mom and dad, he learned to love big band music and "rat pack" tunes. He thoroughly enjoyed ballroom dance lessons and dance parties. But what really mattered most to him was family. He loved spending time with his boys – skiing, camping, traveling. Joel and Peter remember him as a fun, supportive dad – a patient coach and teacher.

Robb was especially happy and proud to add Ashley Witten to the Goff family upon her marriage to Peter. And Robb absolutely adored his grandson, Rett (Everett Witten Goff) and treasured the short time they had together. They lit up each other's lives.

Robb is survived by his sons, Joel, of San Antonio, and Peter and his wife Ashley and son Rett, also of San Antonio; his sister, Gayle, and partner Linda, of Austin; his cousin, Ladd Hanacek and wife, Charmon, of Schulenburg, and their daughters, Faith, of Schulenburg, and Paige Hanacek Lines and husband Matt and their children, Jack, and Eleanor, of Houston.

The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to many dear friends as well as to the medical community for years of friendship and support, especially during his time of need.

The family hopes you will join them in a celebration of Robb's life at 1pm, Monday March 13 at Churchill Baptist Church, 12400 Vista View Street and at the reception following at El Jarro de Arturo, 13421 San Pedro Ave.

In lieu of flowers, please direct remembrances to The Life Raft Group, Alzheimer's Association or St Jude Children's Research Hospital.

We were so very sorry to hear the news about Dr.Goff's passing. Our mother had been a long time patient of his for many years and if it hadn't been for Dr. Goff, she would have passed away 3 years before she did. He literally saved her life many times! He allowed my sister and I to have him on speed dial and we could call him any time of day and even on a Sunday when we had an emergency regarding our Mom and he would always, always answer his phone! He was so kind and patient and will be greatly missed.

Sincerely,

Victoria French, Christina Sailors Turner and on behalf of our deceased Mother, Beverly Sailors.

Robb was the ultimate physician. He was one of the few I trusted to by my physician. The only practioner who actually used his reflex hammer!I I was so fortunate to have known him as a colleague, friend and patient.
He truely was a physicans's physician.

Dr. Goff was a caring man. I first met him when I would take my parents to their appointments. He always spent as much time as needed and made sure all of their questions were answered. Soon I, too, became his patient and truly appreciated his wonderful demeanor. We were truly blessed to have Dr. Goff and his staff in our lives.

Robb will always be Dr. Goff to me. I started seeing him in 1986 when we were both young and he didn´t have a beard! He knew everything about my family, and became my husband´s doctor too. He knew about our kids, grandkids, and trips. We shared travel experiences and pictures. We happened to be in Colorado when Joel got married, and he told us to come over to the reception! We weren´t able to go, but it was so wonderful to be invited. He was so much more than our doctor. He was a dear, trusted friend. His advice was always followed to the letter. As a physician, he has been impossible to replace. Our greatest condolences to Robb´s family, Gayle, Joel, Peter and Rett. He so loved his grandson and I´m thankful they were able to meet. I will always miss his uplifting, positive outlook and the way he cared for all of us.

Dr. Goff was my colleague at Pasteur Medical Associates for 20 years. I never heard him say an unkind thing about anyone in all that time. When Robb cared for my patients in my absence he did so with the utmost professionalism. When I cared for his patients, I was aware of their utmost respect-and love-for this man.
One of the last "real doctors" of his generation, he will be missed by many.

Dr. Goff was so much more than a physician. He cared for my Mom during her latter years and cared for me until he no longer could. He advised me so wisely in caring for my Mom. I appreciated him so much. My deepest condolences to his family. Thank you for sharing this man and his kindness with so many.
