Robert Perrine Obituary

Robert Everett Perrine of Helotes, Texas, died unexpectedly and peacefully on January 8, 2008 while in Vietnam on an international cruise. He was born on May 3, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York, to Anne and Everett Perrine. Bob, "Pop Pop", is survived by his wife and soul mate of more than 50 years, Dolores Ruth Perrine; 4 children, Robert Perrine and wife Tricia, Patricia DeFilippo and husband, Michael, Peter Perrine and wife Susan, all of San Antonio, and Michael Perrine and wife Alyson of Austin. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Jane and Rachel Perrine, Julianne, Brian, Lauren and Christine DeFilippo, Kayla and Jacob Perrine and Michael, Mary Kate and Matthew Perrine; sisters, Barbara Taylor of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Bette Johnson of Scituate, Massachusetts and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob leaves a host of friends in the communities of Helotes and San Antonio where he was a faithful and active member of First Presbyterian Church, and in Port Aransas, where they recently built their dream home on the beach. Bob had distinguished service in the United States Marines. In 1957, he joined the Corps and married Dolores Stiehler. He returned to New York from Camp Lejeune in 1961 and worked for The Hertz Rental Corporation. His career in the rental industry lasted two decades and later he worked in the insurance industry. If there was a sporting or musical event involving his grandchildren, Bob would surely be found on the front row. Bob and Dolores enjoyed extensive travel and adventure. Mission trips to Africa prompted his ongoing love of travel. He enjoyed trips to China, Turkey, Europe, Russia, South America, Egypt, and Croatia and celebrated the millennium in India. Though he was taken from us too soon, he died doing something he loved. The family extends special thanks to the Honorable Charles A. Gonzalez, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and the State Department for their assistance. Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 18, 2008 with the Reverend George Sturch officiating at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Following the interment, a memorial service will take place for Mr. Perrine at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 404 N. Alamo, San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mission Road Ministries (www.missionroadministries.org) or The Salvation Army. Visit www.mem.com for a memorial and tribute. Hoping these Native American words will comfort all the Perrines in this time of loss. We will all sorely miss Mr. Perrine, but will hold him dear in our hearts and memories, and know that he is with us in all the earth's beauty:

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there.
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain
When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

It was a pleasure calling you our friend. Carl enjoys remembering going to UT sports events, and seemingly endless LCV Board meetings and preparing for them.
