Robert Pfennig

Robert Howard Pfennig, age 81, died peacefully in his sleep on January 21, 2015 in New Braunfels, TX. He was born in Seguin, TX on May 20, 1933 to Laura and Robert Pfennig. He lived in several places in his youth and attended schools in Seguin, San Antonio, Ft. Worth, and Austin. After graduating from Texas Lutheran College he continued his education at the Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbus, OH. He was married to his wife Mary Ann (formerly Leisering) on June 10, 1955. Rev. Pfennig was ordained at St. Martin's in Austin in June of 1958. He accepted his first call to St. Paul Lutheran in Hondo that same year. In 1964 he accepted a call to start a new mission church in Brenham, TX. That church would soon become Christ Lutheran which is at this time celebrating its 50th anniversary. After a long and successful tenure at Christ Lutheran he went on to begin St. Mark's Lutheran in Adkins, TX and completed his ministry in 1997 at Christ Lutheran in El Campo, TX.

Survivors include his wife Mary Ann; his sister Laura and her husband John Canuteson of Liberty, MO; daughter Sharon and her husband Tyrus Schroeder of New Braunfels, TX, their children, Michael, Daniel, and Kirstin; son Robert Pfennig and his wife Anne of Madison, WI, and their daughter Oksana; son William Pfennig and his wife Kathleen of San Antonio, TX, and their daughters Jessica (engaged to Jon Polk) and Victoria; and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Abbileigh Polk; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws.

A memorial service will be held at Peace Lutheran in New Braunfels on January 26, 2015 at 10:00 am.
