Ruth Nash Obituary

RUTH ANNE HERBSLEB NASH
November 16, 1929 - September 26, 2024
Ruth Anne Herbsleb Nash, affectionately known as "Herby" to her friends and family, peacefully passed at her residence on September 26, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Anne Herbsleb, and her husband, Dr. William Nash.
Born in 1929 in San Antonio, Texas, Herby grew up in a loving and generous family. She graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1947. It was while she was at Brackenridge that Herby met the love of her life and future husband, William "Corky" Nash.
As the first person in her family to attend college, Herby graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1951 with a Bachelor of Journalism degree. Her proudest achievement in college was serving as the first woman night editor of The Daily Texan. She was also an active member of Theta Sigma Phi, the honorary journalism fraternity, and Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
Her career began with a summer internship at the San Antonio Express and culminated as the editor of the employee magazine at Amoco Refinery in Texas City. Herby strongly believed in the mission of The Ecumenical Center for Religion and Health and volunteered with the organization for over thirty years. She was a proud supporter of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and a member of their Heritage Council and Sealy Society.
As a life long learner, Herby enjoyed auditing classes at San Antonio College and attending classes at Adult Learning in Retirement (ALIR). Her love of ancient history was passed along to her children and grandchildren. A special acknowledgement must be made to her "therapy group". This close knit group of women were an integral part of her life for decades.
Herby is survived by her daughters, Peggy Stoll and her husband, John, Nancy Gebhardt and her husband Johnny, and her beloved grandchildren, Sarah Stone, Travis Stoll, Connor Stoll, and Michael Gebhardt and his wife, Jenny. Dubbed "Mimi" by her grandkids, they were the highlight of her life. She especially enjoyed family vacations to Vermont and Hawaii and dinners at Club Giraud.
As a parting word, Mimi would like to remind everyone of the wise advice of her father, "Be thankful for what you've got."
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the caregivers in Assisted Living at The Inn at Los Patios and to Sacred Heart Hospice. We cannot thank them enough for the love and devotion that they showed to our Mimi.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Sacred Heart Hospice, 404 E. Ramsey Rd, Suite 105, San Antonio Texas, 78216.

My condolences to the Stoll and Gebhardt family. I know Herbie`s physical presence will be missed by many, however I know her spirit will live on in all of her friends and family. She was a wonderful lady. I was blessed to have Herbie in my life for many years. She was my "office wife." To explain that comment I worked for her husband, Dr. Corky Nash for many years. Herbie and I would send little gifts for our grandchildren back-and-forth by way of Corky who would put them in his closet at work and take them home or bring them from home to me. Soar with the angels sweet Herbie.
Always, Bobbie

Peggy and Nancy,

So very sad to hear about your dear Mom. Too many memories to list. She was always the best hostess. I remember all of the swim events, sleepovers, waiting the storms out and watching the flood waters rise in the ditch. Playing board games in the breezeway your attic and watching for her car for a ride to school. The many meals, snacks and all the food that she made for me. Those were certainly great times and they sure seem like yesterday. I remember all of them very well and they made a great impact on me.
I will be praying for your entire family during this difficult time. May your hearts heal in time and remember all of the wonderful memories she made with you.
Henry
