Sarah F. Bunte passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at her home in La Vernia, Texas surrounded by family at the age of 95. She was born August 11, 1928, in San Antonio, Texas to Consuelo Lopez and Leonard Gray. She was the youngest of six children. On September 9, 1950, Sarah married the love of her life, Raymond C. Bunte and they were married over 65 years. Raymond was active-duty Air force and Sarah and Raymond lived in many different parts of the country and even lived for in Iceland for a part of that time. Sarah lived in Spokane, WA and upon Raymond's retirement n 1963, the family moved back home to San Antonio. When Sarah's son started elementary school, she went to cosmetology school and became a licensed beautician. She worked at Dellcrest Beauty Salon for a few years and then worked at Mary's Beauty Shop until her retirement in 1990.
In 1971 the family moved to La Vernia, Texas and that has been Sarah's home until her passing. After retirement Sarah stayed active with church, family, and friends. Sarah never met a person who didn't become a friend.
From 1971 to 1988 Sarah and Raymond were members of the Stockdale Church of Christ. On October 2, 1988, Sarah and Raymond were at the very first service of the La Vernia Church of Christ and became one of the first members of the fledgling church. Sarah remained active in the church until the end of her days.
Sarah is preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond C. Bunte; her parents; daughter-in-law Linda (Almaguer) Bunte; brothers, William Lopez and Eliazar Lopez; sisters, Lola Hughes, Ruth Martinez and Maria Gomez. She is survived by her son, Michael Bunte; nephew and care-giver Antonio Gomez; adopted grandchildren, Breeanna Wood and Adamhenry Perez; numerous nephews, nieces, and many great nephews and nieces.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 4, 2024, from 5:00 PM ~ 7:00 PM at Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.
The funeral service will be Friday, July 5, 2024, beginning at 9:30 AM at Finch Funeral Chapel, La Vernia, Texas. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
