Sarah Walker Obituary

Sarah Cheney Walker (Sally) died December 3, 2005. She was born in Jackson, Mississippi, September 12, 1918 and moved to San Antonio in 1934. Sally graduated from Saint Mary's Hall and Mary Baldwin College in Virginia. She married Ganahl Walker, Jr. in 1940. She was a member of Saint Mark's Episcopal Church and Saint Boniface Episcopal Church in Comfort, Texas. Her many civic commitments included The Witte Museum, The Junior League, The Charity Ball Association, The Battle of Flowers Association, Alamo Heights - Terrell Hills Garden Club, and Sunshine Cottage. She was an accomplished photographer, a dedicated conservationist, and served as a Horticulture Judge in Garden Club of America; but her passions were painting and family. Sally received the 1991 Garden Club of America Zone IX Horticulture Award, was the 1997 Distinguished Alumna of Saint Mary's Hall, and the San Antonio Art League 2005 Artist of the Year. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Ganahl Walker, Jr. She is survived by her children, Chuck and Marilyn Walker, Lisa Walker and Mark Paulson, Ted Walker and Peggy Walker; grandchildren: Cliff and Sheri Turner, Courtney Turner, Melissa Turner, Charlie and Vicki Walker, Sara Walker, Edwin Walker, Cameron and Van Cammack, and Ashley Paulson.
