July 15, 1944 - November 7, 2024
Shirley Kasper Kearns Hormuth, 80, of Fredericksburg, formerly of San Antonio passed away on November 7th, 2024.
Shirley was born July 15, 1944, in Fredericksburg, TX to Richard and Louise Evers Kasper. She grew up on the family ranch in the Doss community attending the country school there for 9 years. She spoke both German and English as a child and loved to read.
She attended Fredericksburg High School and graduated in 1962. She attended Texas Lutheran College. She attained a double major in English and German and graduated in May 1966.
Her first teaching assignment was as the German teacher at the new Churchill High School in Northeast ISD in San Antonio.
She then became an assistant principal at Madison High School after attaining a Mid-Management certification. After 6 years, she moved to be principal at Jackson Middle School demanding good behavior and respect from her students. After 5 years, she was asked to open a new school, Clara Driscoll Middle School. She moved to the central office as an Associate Superintendent of Curriculum. This is where she retired in 2001.
She reconnected with Donnie Hormuth, a former college classmate at TLC after 40 plus years. They married in 2011 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in La Vernia and lived in San Antonio. They were both active at Shepherd King Lutheran Church where they were on various committees and went out to eat with close church friends.
Surviving is her dear family, only sister Annabel Wilkinson of Fredericksburg, nieces; Carrie Beaird of Frisco and Cristal Ristau and husband Jeremy of Fredericksburg, great nieces, Sidney and Shelby Beaird and great nephews Guy, Beau, and Ladd Ristau. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Ray Hormuth, parents, Richard and Louise Kasper, and brother-in-law Kenneth Ray Wilkinson.
Pall Bearers are Michael Shirley, Bryan Stanley, Ryan McDaniel, Twain Tharp, Dr. Richard Middleton, Gary Green, Neal Reeh, Randy Busch, and Brendon Ottmers.
Memorials be given to the Doss V.F.D., Shirley and Donald Hormuth Endowment Scholarship at Texas Lutheran University, Bethany Pre-school Building Fund, or the charity of your choice.
A service was held at Bethany Lutheran on November 12th with Pastors Casey Zesch and Ray Tiemann officiating.

Shirley was a dear fellow church member and friend from Shepherd King Lutheran Church in San Antonio. She served in many leadership roles and gave of her time and talent generously. Go with God, dear Shirley.
