Tommie Shaddox Obituary

Tommie B. Shaddox, 91, of San Antonio, died Friday, December 30, at Morningside Manor.

A memorial is scheduled Friday, January 13, at 11 a.m. at Colonial Hills United Methodist Church, 5247 Vance Jackson.

She was born in 1931 in Paducah, Texas, to William Colley and Ora Shuman Briggs. After receiving bachelor's and master's degrees from Southwestern University and the University of Texas, she taught in middle and high schools before leaving the profession to raise her son. Later, she worked in a variety of fields including retail, nonprofits, and real estate.

An avid reader, Tommie enjoyed the book group she co-founded in 1972. She rarely ended conversations with her son without a book recommendation.

As a longtime parishioner at Colonial Hills, she spent her later years exploring and expanding her spiritual life.

She is survived by her son, Russell Shaddox (Colleen) of East Haddam, Connecticut; her grandson, Charles Shaddox (Taryn Olivas) of New Haven, Connecticut; her niece, Cindy Davis of Savannah, and her nephew, Richard Ress of Colorado, and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Carol Ann Ress.

Tommie also leaves behind an abundance of devoted friends that she cultivated and cherished.
