Virginia Felicio Obituary

Virginia "Bo" Felicio (née Hernandez), age 58, passed peacefully from this world on April 2, 2021 in Washington, DC. Bo was born on August 28th, 1962 in San Antonio, Texas.

She attended Saint Thomas More Catholic School and Theodore Roosevelt High School, graduating in 1980. While she was accepted to the Air Force Academy, she was unable to attend. She often said this was her one regret in life.

Her professional career began at the age of 17, as a Communication and Computers CO-OP at Kelly Air Force Base in 1981. Her success in this program set the stage to her rapid promotions through-out her civil service career. First, to a federal position as a Computer Specialist, where she successfully implemented cutting edge information technologies. Bo feared no task and embraced every challenge. She could break open a box of new IT equipment quickly and figure it out like a master technician. She then worked in Communication and Computer Requirements providing new technologies and budgeting to customers. She was also involved in the Air Force's quality training efforts where she discovered a new set of natural skills.

Bo was quickly recognized and promoted: first supporting beneficiary education and Communications in the U.S. Army Medical Command, Fort Sam Houston, TX; then to the TRICARE Marketing and Communication office in the Department of Defense TRICARE Management Activity, Falls Church, VA; and then as the Director of Marketing at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Washington, DC.

Her final promotion was with the Defense Logistics Command (DLA), Department of Defense, in their Training and Recruiting office. There she was recognized for her success with a myriad of difficult recruiting efforts. Most notably was her achievement of recruiting significantly more college students to DLA in a month than DLA had achieved over the past three years. Bo was fondly admired by all her colleagues, customers and the senior leadership wherever she was employed. While in Washington, DC Bo fell in love with her soul mate John and they married on May 28, 2006. She retired early so she could return with her husband to San Antonio to care for her ailing father-in-law in his final days. Virginia, so full of positive energy, would light up a room. Whether it was a room full of students, co-workers, family or friends; she had their admiration and love. Bo, with that great smile, hearty laugh and genuine kindness for people, made everyone feel as though they were the most important person in the room. Bo loved and nurtured all living things… plants to people. A view of her garden, with blossoming flowers, fruits and veggies was like a view of Bo herself. Most important to Bo was her family and dearest friends. She loved "Big John" and adored her "miracle" baby John Tomas (as she often referred to him) more than life itself. She would and did do anything for family and friends who she "adopted" as family. She would often say, "I just love my life."

She is preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Esther Hernandez, brother Manuel Hernandez, and sister Theresa Hernandez. Virginia is survived by her beloved husband and son John Felicio and John Tomas, niece Melissa and husband Devan Renfro, niece Christina Lopez and nephew James Ybarra, as well as four beloved grand nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 12pm at St Thomas More Catholic Church with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

You loved and supported my family beyond measure. I will miss our road trips, Stonewood St meet ups and your beautiful smile. I know you are soaring with the angels and I will think of you often especially while I garden. Rest in peace my sweet friend.

So sorry to hear about Bo's passing so soon. Our time as coworkers at Fort Sam were the best in my career. She was so full of life and brought her contagious spirit to our work environment. I owe her for the skills I developed under her leadership that have served me through the years that have followed. May God bless you Bo and bring peace to your loved ones through knowing how many lives you touched in a positive way.

I'm sorry for her passing. I also attended both St. Thomas Moore and Roosevelt. I graduated in 1978. Although I didn't know her, I am saddened to hear of a fellow Rough Rider passing. Prayers to her loved ones. - Keith Theis
