Vivian Guillermo "Dee" Alvarez passed away on November 20, 2018, at the age of seventy. Born in Roma, Texas, he was a 1968 graduate of Roma High School.

Dee's career in computer operations began with main frame operations in the Valley. In San Antonio in the 1970's, he joined Trinco, which merged with Trinity University Computer Center; he ended a long career in 1995 as Manager of Hardware Maintenance. At his retirement in 2009, he was a computer operator for the ITSD of the City of San Antonio.

Happiest outdoors, he had time to landscape the back yard, always a work in progress. From his mother he got his "green thumb"; he planted palm trees, aloe vera, ferns, tulipans, bougainvillea, oleander, sodded grass, and created a cactus garden.
As a teen he worked with his father, a housing contractor, learning basic carpentry, bricklaying, and concrete work. These past years he designed, measured, dug & poured concrete walkways. He incorporated pavers, rocks, color, & a slab with the names and handprints of his mother, himself, & his siblings.

















He rooted for his Cowboys & Spurs, and enjoyed grilling ribs, sausage, & fajitas in the brick pit he built, relaxing with a cold beer.

He is preceded by his parents, Alberto A. Alvarez and Victorina G. Alvarez; his brother, Adan A. Alvarez; his niece, Elizabeth G. Avita.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rebecca Valdez Alvarez; his brother, Alberto A. Alvarez, Jr. (Elma); his sister, Maria del Rosario Guerra (Antonio); his sister-in-law, Virginia M. Alvarez; numerous nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be held Sunday, November 25, 2018 at

Mission Park Funeral Chapels South from 5pm to 9pm with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7PM.

Funeral Mass will be held Monday, November 26, 2018 at St. Leonard's Catholic Church at 10AM, followed by interment at Mission Burial Park South.
