Vivienne "Vicky" Schwarting LePere
January 18, 1931 - September 11, 2025
Vivienne "Vicky" Schwarting LePere, the only child of Fred and Sue Schwarting, was called to her eternal Home early in the morning of September 11, 2025. Born in Houston, Texas on January 18, 1931, Vicky went to Lamar High School and graduated from Rice University. While at Rice she met her future husband, Bob LePere, who was attending Baylor Medical School close by. Bob and Vicky married on August 23, 1952.
To support the newlyweds, Vicky taught 5th grade in Houston. After a couple of years, they moved to New Orleans to continue Bob's medical training. She hoped to continue her teaching, but Louisiana's certification requirements-specifically a course on state history-led her to pursue a new path in social work, which was the start of lifelong commitment to serving those in need. Next stop for the couple was London as Bob focused his training on thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. In 1959, San Antonio became their home, where Vicky worked as a secretary for Bob and his new medical practice. The couple remained passionately devoted to one another for 69 years until Bob's passing in 2021.
Vicky loved her family, many friends, First Presbyterian Church and its members, and of course her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her spiritual journey began at the age of 4 when she saw a picture of Jesus knocking at the door. Vicky was a Christian through and through, never uttering a curse word, but she did tell her children earlier this year while at the hospital that getting old was H-E-L-L. She couldn't say it, but her spelling was spot on. Vicky knew that the power of prayer was real and had a strong belief in the Holy Spirit.
Vicky served as a Deacon and Elder at First Presbyterian Church. She was a past president of the Bexar County Medical Society Alliance, Friends of Hospice, Victoria Courts Child Care Center and Presbyterian Women. She was a past board member of Hospice San Antonio, Southwest Texas Regional Blood Bank, Mission Road Developmental Center and Christian Assistance Ministry (CAM). In 1976, she was a Co-founder and Co-chairman of Whiteside Dental Clinic. In 1986, she and a fellow church member co-founded the San Antonio Christian Dental Clinic, where she served as Co-chairman (1986-96) and as Chairman (1996-2000). Vicky was enormously proud when her daughter Sharon joined the Board of Directors of the SA Christian Dental Clinic several years ago.
Vicky was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by daughter Sharon LePere (Kevin Buchar), son Richard H. LePere (Kristin); grandchildren Robert H. LePere II (Gracie), Sophia LePere; great grandchildren Cardo (5), Peggy (3) and Lew (4 months); sister-in-law Carmen LePere; nieces Sandra Mihalov, Leslea Linebarger (Daryl), Lee Ann Cox (Bartley) and Pam Bennett. The family would like to thank the staff at the Forum at Lincoln Heights and Heart of Texas Hospice for the care they gave Vicky. Also, the family is grateful for the Lord's gift of introducing Lupita, who cared for Vicky for 3 years, the Rev. Paul Kacsur who visited Vicky weekly for the past several months, and for her friend James, who would often show up with a piece of cake to brighten her day.
A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church (404 N. Alamo Street). For those unable to attend, a livestream of Vicky's service will be available through her obituary at

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the San Antonio Christian Dental Clinic (
