William Wright Obituary

William (Bill) Kendall Wright
January 25, 1932 - February 23, 2023
William (Bill) Kendall Wright, 91, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, in Copperas Cove, Texas.
Bill was born January 25, 1932, in San Antonio, Texas to William Daniel and Mary Agnes Wright.
After graduating from Edgewood High School, Bill joined the United States Air Force where he served the next 22 years in the capacity of aircraft maintenance and support for the Strategic Air Command. Bill had two overseas tours of duty; first in Tripoli, North Africa, and then more than a year based in Southeast Asia. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant on May 1st, 1973. His military decorations included the Bronze Star Medal and two Air Force Commendation Medals.
In addition to his military career, Bill was happily married to his wife of 50 years, Lois Mitchell (Robertson) Wright. Together they raised a family of four children in San Antonio.
Bill and Lois were deeply involved in the square dance scene, based in the San Antonio area, for more than four decades, founding and operating multiple clubs with hundreds of dancers. He got his start back in the early-1960s, when Bill was stationed in Plattsburgh, NY. Over the years, Bill expanded his reach and became very well-known as a successful caller and square dance instructor in Texas. He was inducted into the Texas State Callers Association Hall of Fame in 2012. Bill also fulfilled his lifelong passion for flying by obtaining his private pilot's license. This allowed him to fly Lois, his children, many grandchildren and friends on trips in and around the San Antonio area. When he could no longer fly, he took up driving a Harley Davidson.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Wright in 2002, his eldest son, David Wright in 2021, sister Barbara Uecker in 1989, brother James (Jimmie) Uecker in 1999, brother Larry Uecker in 2004, and brother Bruce Uecker in 2020.
He is survived by David's wife Betty Wright; daughter Deborah J. Tijerina and husband Homero; son, Daniel M. Wright, and wife Stephanie; son, Stephen W. Wright and wife Marina; brother, Marvin R. Uecker; and sister, Linda L. Zivicki. Bill has eight grandchildren, Brian Wright, Kendall Wright, Daniel Tijerina, Benjamin Tijerina, Asher Wright, Mathew Downs, Lois Nguyen, and William Wright. Bill also has thirteen great-grandchildren, David Wright, Lauren Wright, Joshua Wright, Ava Wright, Alana Tijerina, Haleigh Tijerina, Gabriel Tijerina, Luna Wright, Caleb Wright, Stellan Wright, Kai Nguyen, Ren Nguyen, and Jonah Wright.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Castle Ridge Mortuary, 8008 W. Military Dr., SATX, 78227.
