Yolanda Vallejo Obituary

June 21, 1947 - November 25, 2015
Yolanda Vallejo, age 68, departed peacefully at her home on November 25, 2015. She was a beloved spouse, mother, sister and friend to everyone she touched. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 21, 1947. She was preceded in death by her father, Arturo Ibarra, her brother, Gilbert Ibarra, and her son, Edward Vallejo, Jr. She is survived by her mother, Ruth Salinas, her husband of over forty-six years, Edward Vallejo, her son, Gregory Vallejo and his wife Andrea, and siblings Arthur Ibarra Jr. and his wife Caroll, Rudy Ibarra and his wife Rosie, Virginia Eng and her husband Jerry, Beatrice Hinojosa and her husband Tobias, and other family members including several in-laws, two aunts, an uncle, numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, lifelong friends from the Air Force, and other close friends.

Yolanda and her husband met many lifelong friends at Irving Junior High School at age 12. Those relationships remained important to her throughout her life. One of her greatest pleasures in later life was meeting with her girlfriends. Edward and Yolanda married in their early 20's and had two loving children, Eddie Jr. and Gregory. As the oldest in her extended family, she was a positive role model and inspiration to her brothers, sisters and cousins. She earned an Accounting Associates degree from Merced Junior College in California and worked in that field throughout her life. After fifteen years at USAA she retired in 2006. In 2007, she and her husband fulfilled their lifelong dream of vacationing in Rome, Italy and visiting the Vatican.

She was a kind and loving woman, a person who would be willing to help any way she could. Yolanda's home and heart were open to all. She demonstrated this in her roles as confidant, mentor, and caretaker to many in her family. The many different roles in her life included accounting professional, homemaker, officer's wife, seamstress, and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, all in the name of helping others. Her faith and her love for others were evident throughout her life.

Services for Yolanda Vallejo will begin with a vigil and rosary at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home at 6321 Bandera Road on Sunday, November 29, 2015. The vigil at the funeral home will begin at 5 P.M., followed by a rosary at 7 P.M. On Monday, November 30, 2015 there will be a funeral mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 13715 Riggs Rd. in Helotes, TX starting at 10 A.M. Interment will follow after the mass at Helotes Catholic Cemetery. Father John Balleza, Yolanda's cousin, will be officiating over all the services.

Eddie, our deepest sympathy to you, Gregg and all the family. I know this will be difficult time for you but your faith will guide you thru it. She meant so much to me especially in our later years when we are experiencing and sharing our lives with each other. The monthly luncheons with the girls were heaven sent for all of us and will continue the tradition with her in mind. Bless you my friend.

Ed,
My deepest sympathy to both you and Gregg. I was so fortunate to know Yollie as a young teen and grow up with her and your family throughout the years.
