ANDRE DITIMUS Obituary

DITIMUS, ANDRE JEAN a.k.a. "GYPSY" passed in peace on February 2, 2013 at the age of 61 surrounded by his family at the home he so loved in Chula Vista, California. André entered this life on May 14, 1951 in San Diego, California. He was the second son of Carlise and Florence Corona Ditimus. He is survived by the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Donna K. Ditimus (Supri), son Shawn, daughters Nicole (of Montana) and Marisa Vanessa, grandchildren Mia Isabelle and Shawn II, brothers Tom (wife Carol) and Eiffel, sister Linda (husband Panagiotis of Poros, Greece), nephews Eiffel II, George and Carolos, and nieces Michelle and Danelle. André loved sports and was a gifted athlete. At the age of 16 he began body building at Earl Clark's Gym in Chula Vista. It is there that he met his mentor and workout partner "Mr. Universe" Earl Clark. He graduated from Castle Park High School, class of 1969. He was a standout in Cross-Country and Track & Field where he lettered Varsity in both sports. His running continued beyond high school into his adult life to include running in marathons. A decorated Vietnam veteran (1971 & 1972); André proudly served his country in the United States Army. 1st of the 7th Calvary Division, Air and Ground Assault Unit. It was there that his brothers in arms gave him his nickname "Gypsy" that would follow him the rest of his life. After finishing college with a degree in Horticulture, he enjoyed his 38 year career as a Horticulturist. He worked at the South Bay School District, the Coronado Golf Course and the City of Coronado where he retired from at the age of 48. André's passion was working in his beautiful home garden where he would find peace and happiness. He loved the outdoors, backpacking, hiking, traveling, classic cars, music, his cats Thai Thai and Kiki, but most of all he loved his family. André worked hard and played hard. He lived his life to the fullest! He is now and will forever be deeply loved and missed by his family and friends. God bless you André! Private Services will be conducted at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on Monday, February 25, 2013. André will be laid to rest with Military Honors.
