Anne E. Evans

Ann E. Evans October 20, 1933 - August 20, 2018 San Diego Ann Elizabeth (Wesner) Evans passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 84 years, on August 20, 2018. She was born on October 20, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Dr. Gordon and Emina Wesner. She was the oldest of two children. In 1955 Ann graduated from DePauw University in Indiana with a degree in Home Economics. She married William Thomas Evans on June 25, 1955 and moved to Elgin, Illinois, where he worked for the Copley newspapers. She was extremely active with volunteer work with the Head Start Program as well as the Elgin Housing Authority to provide direct assistance to low income families moving into new public housing sites. She was also a member of the Elgin advisory committee to the OEO (Office of Economic Opportunity). In 1980 she began serving at Ascension Lutheran in San Diego as a certified lay professional. Upon retirement in 1991, she and her husband Bill decided to assist in the development of a program called "Senior Gleaners," who provide charitable organizations with food for distribution to the poor, harvesting from orchards and gathering from stores. From 1993 to 2017 she was extremely active in the organization, logging over 25,000 lifetime service hours. She is survived by her two children, Scott (Lisa), of Seattle, Washington, and Sarah (Keith), of San Diego, her brother, Gordon Wesner, of Rockford, Illinois, and eight grandchildren, Eric (Elika), Timothy (Elizabeth), Adele (Alan), Kristina, Peter, Philip, Justin, and Carmela, and three great-grandchildren (with two more on the way). In addition to her many accomplishments, she found great joy in investing in and encouraging her grandchildren in their many talents over the years. Memorial services will be held at Ascension Lutheran (5106 Zion Avenue) on Saturday, September 8 at 11:00 AM.
