Barbara Brady Obituary

Barbara Jean (Maleski) Brady, passed away peacefully at 81 years of age, in San Diego, California, on December 29th, 2023. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Barbara will be forever missed.

Barbara was born in San Diego on February 11, 1942, to Dorene (Snyder) and Harold Maleski. She was a true California native and should be known as the original Barbie. She was a graduate of Helix High School 1959 from where she maintained a close group of friends throughout her life.

Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Brady in 1959, they were married for nearly twenty years. During this time, they raised their five children, Scott, Todd, Kimberly, Gregg, and Lance. Her most loving and precious gifts to the world. She so loved being a stay-at-home mom and providing a loving, nurturing and adventurous upbringing. Barbara was a highly active member in La Mesa Jr. Women's Club (1963-1974) holding various positions, Gavel Talk, Ways & Means Chairman. She also worked on various committees to benefit La Mesa Youth & Community.

In the late 70's Barbara became a co-owner and manager of Nutville, USA (nut & country gifts retail store). It was here that she was able to use her natural abilities for shopping and decorating as the purchaser and main gift buyer for three stores located in San Diego County. She thoroughly enjoyed having a family business and providing a fun working environment for several family members and friends. In the late 80's, Barbara managed Animals Galore, a gift store in La Mesa.

In 1998, she retired so she could spend more time with what she considered her 'biggest gift to the world' eighteen beautiful grandchildren: Spencer, Claire, Rachel, Erica, Brandon, Morgan, Grace, Lindsey, Lauren, Liam, Stella, Jenna, Grant, Brianna, Colton, Rhett, Jack, and Maxx. All of whom loved their Grammy so very much. She so enjoyed our times together, especially when we would gather for a Christmas Party at the bowling alley, followed by a scavenger hunt at her house. Grammy's legacy continues with six great grandchildren: Levi, Joselyn, Alice, Rory, Colter, and Lilly, with more on the way.

Mom loved cooking, gardening, sewing, knitting, SHOPPING, eating out with friends and had a talent for decorating. Barbara had a significant group of lifelong friends, many of which she gathered with often. They provided her with a foundation of love and support throughout her life.

Barbara is preceded in death by her father Harold, mother Dorene, sister Linda Fisher, husbands Ronald Brady, John Sheridan, and Lynn Atnip and will be remembered with love by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and an abundance of friends.

She lived a very blessed life!

A private Celebration of Life will be held for Barbara on Sunday January 28, 2024.
