Barbara Frances De Riemer October 26, 1924 - May 8, 2017 La Mesa - Barbara "Barb" F. De Riemer, age 92, a La Mesa resident since 1958, passed away on May 8, 2017 in San Diego. She was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, the only daughter of the late Alban and Florence Greenlar (Gruenler). She grew up in Rochester, NY, and graduated from the University of Rochester with both BA and RN degrees. Shortly after graduation she headed west and landed in San Francisco where she was the head pediatric nurse at a UCSF outpatient clinic. Barbara kept her love of infants and young children and her adventurous spirit throughout her entire life. She was active in the Girl Scouts, AFS and contributed generously to the Charley Brown Children's Center in La Mesa. In retirement she and her late husband, Dr. Robert H. De Riemer, traveled extensively to developing countries to provide medical aid to those in great need; those travels included a 6 month stint in rural Nepal. She is survived by her five children, Leslie (Richard) Anderson of Encinitas, Kathy De Riemer of Davis, David (Kelley) De Riemer of San Diego, Philip (Mary) De Riemer of Coloma and John (Charlane) De Riemer of La Mesa, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her only sibling, Philip Earnest Greenlar (Gruenler). Her remains were interred together with those of Robert H. De Riemer at Ft. Rosecrans, Point Loma. The family requests that memorial donations be made in her name to the Charley Brown Children's Center at 5921 Jackson Dr., La Mesa, CA 91942 .
