First of all, my condolences to all of Brian's friends and family. I just learned about his passing this week (August 2021). I remember vividly talking to him on the phone and via e-mail over 40 years ago.
Brian was a huge help to me, and the company where I worked, during the early 1980's. The company I was with was setting up it's e-mail infrastructure and one of Brian's UCSD systems was our UUCP relay connection that we had a modem connection to. He answered many questions and helped solve many problems and was always very patient and helpful and generous with his time, whenever there was an issue when we were first getting things working. Thanks so much for all your help over the years, Brian - we could not have done this without your technical expertise and your kindness in helping a fellow sys-admin.
e-mail at 9600 baud is really something that was so terrific at the time, but today is hard to appreciate how much it made a difference in people's lives at the time.
I am sure there are many others who were in the same boat and Brian was always there to help bail us all out of our problems.
He's a perfect example of what helping the world become a bit better in many countless small and sometimes even big ways is all about. Thanks Brian - you really made a difference in making things better for a very long time,

My deepest condolences to all who loved him. He made a good impression on me with my, although few, first-hand encounters with him. I could truly tell that Brian was a good man. He will be sorely missed by many.
Rest in peace, Brian.

Brian: I met you when we worked together in Mission Valley in San Diego workng on Pick. You were the first person to show me the "Cave" game for playing after hours at work late at night. You alway thought I was a brown-noser because I started that job wearing a tie and you were wearing a Hawaiian shirt, but you were always a good friend and I miss you now. I just learned of your passing from an ARRL forum at Quartzite 2020 - what a shock. Thanks so very much for being who you were. There will be most certainly never another you! RIP Brian, - Don Backstrom
