CARL STRINGFIELD Obituary

STRINGFIELD, CARL H. Born on October 24, 1936, in Indianapolis, IN to Theron and Naomi, the first of four children, died on Monday, September 28, 2009, in Escondido, CA. Carl was married to Leona Stringfield for 51 years. Carl is survived by his wife, Leona; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Karen of Scripps Ranch, CA; son, Brent of Wilmette, IL; one brother and one sister; one grandson, and one great-grand-daughter. Carl moved to San Diego in 1955 and began his illustrious career in Aerospace, including being Chief Engineer for the Manipulator Arm Boom and for the Stargazer Platform for the Hubble Telescope, at General Dynamics working 27 years for them and earning his BA from SDSU before moving to Composite Optics, Inc. to further his work in the field before retiring in July, 1991. Carl was a master carpenter, having built three homes for his family, including the home they shared in Ramona for 18 years and a home he and Leona retired to in Mariposa, CA. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed travels with his wife and family. Carl so loved Leona that they renewed their wedding vows twice, the last time on the day of their 50th wedding anniversary aboard an Alaskan cruise with his sons and daughter-in-law as witnesses. Services were held on Monday, October 5, 2009. The family suggests that donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to: America Cancer Society, 2655 Camino Del Rio North, San Diego, CA 92108, or World Wildlife Federation, 1250 Twenty-Fourth St., N.W./P.O. Thank you for letting the folks in Ramona know of Carl's passing. I worked at Composite Optics from 1988 to 2000 and worked with Carl and Brent. Carl always made me laugh with his sneaky little humor and grin and how he would always play like he wore the pants but we all knew it was Leona running the ship!! What a loving couple. Carl was a huge part of the COI family and will truly be missed.
My sympathy to Brent, Mark and Leona.

I worked with Carl at Convair for 6 years from 1957 to 1963. I relocated with my family to Silicon Valley and worked for 31 years for GTE Governent Systems. I remember him as being a very bright young man and realized he would have a great career and family. He was highly respected by all his co-workers and of course management. We worked together as Pattern Makers. My family and I just relocated last year to Carlsbad.
