Carol Turner Obituary

Carol Elizabeth (Medina) Turner

May 17, 1947 - November 30, 2023

Harker Heights, TX

The world is a poorer place without Carol. Born in San Diego to Adeline Mary Silva and Frank Albert Medina, she grew up in the Point Loma Portuguese community. She attended Catholic schools, but graduated from Point Loma High. She attended Nazarene College in Point Loma. She was a Point Loma icon: known for taking the keys to her dad's Cadillac and joyriding, she loved that car. He helped her get her first job as switchboard operator at the Naval Base. She soon segued to working at the Navy Exchange.

Carol married a Navy man, John Thomas Turner, in Georgia on 20 November, 1975. His Vietnam service was as Captain of armed riverboat patrols, and served in Naval patrol at Cuba. He later died in 1994. They both loved cars, to travel, motorcycle road trips, and dancing. They were stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for a few years.

Carol was instrumental in many Navy Security programs, in San Diego and Guantanamo, Cuba, for over 20 years. She was the Chief Detective for Commissary Security in San Diego for most of that time. She received several citations and awards for her work. She loved detective stories as well as legal/police/detective TV series for her whole life.

There are no surviving parents, siblings, or children. Carol had a long life.

The world is a much better place to have had Carol in it. It will feel a lesser place without her smile, wit, grace, and humor.

Interment with her husband was at Miramar National Cemetery on December 15, 2023.

Carol Medina Turner was my dad's half-sister, and we had kept in touch for many years until she moved away from San Diego. Unfortunately, I didn't have her new address and couldn't find her. I would love to chat briefly with whomever was with her this last year.
