Cindy McLaughlin Obituary

McLaughlin, Cindy Marie 04/04/1970 ~ 01/30/2014 SAN DIEGO-- Our beloved Cindy passed away at home on January 30, 2014, following a courageous seven-year battle with pancreatitis. Cindy was born on April 4, 1970 in Washington, D.C. In 1971 her family moved to San Diego, settling in Point Loma, whereupon Cindy enrolled at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School. It was at the school's parish that she was christened, received her First Holy Communion, and was confirmed. Cindy went on to attend Point Loma High School where she began to accumulate the large circle of friends that would come to distinguish her life. During this time she was a member of MADCAPS, ZLAC, and Peninsula Soccer. She was also an accomplished skier, frequently gracing the steep slopes of Deer Valley. Cindy attended Point Loma Nazarene, before graduating from Saddleback College with an A.A. Degree. Cindy was best known in the local business community, as the owner of the popular Bliss Skin Care on Midway Drive. Until her illness, she was one of San Diego's finest estheticians. Cindy was a radiant, yoga inspired, beach beauty. Not surprisingly, sun lovers flocked to her salon for lifelong skin care. Everyone loved Cindy. She traveled freely between the surfer crowd, biker bars, and fishermen's hangouts of Point Loma and O.B. That was her true gift, the ability to both blend in and stand out with any crowd. She was the eternal optimist, always smiling, always moving forward. Loyal to a fault, her constant mantra with family and friends was the familiar, "I've got your back." Cindy was the ultimate caretaker, her own wellbeing always secondary to that of others. Her spirit couldn't be quelled by illness or other misfortune. She was a force of nature, larger than life. Cindy is survived by her parents, Rick and Dorene, brother, John, sister, Casey, sister- in-law, Peg, and nephews Sean and Will. She will be missed as only a daughter, a sister, a friend can be. A Celebration of Life will take place at St. Charles Borromeo on February 26 at 5:30 p.m. A reception will follow the service at her parents' home. Donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital (1-800-873- 6983; Acct. #35265054).

I will always remember Cindy. I first met Cindy in the early 70s we played soccer together. Sometimes I would not see or speak to Cindy for a full year or more but you could never tell. Her heart was warm and her arms were wide. She truly knew how to be a good friend. All my love and respect. Kelly J. Robinson
