Clara Vattuone Obituary

Clara Vattuone September 7, 1923 - December 20, 2015 San Diego Clara Vattuone, a native San Diegan, died peacefully at Nazareth House on December 20, 2015, at the age of 92. Clara was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and friend who will be missed. Daughter of Italian immigrants, Catherine and Michele Stagnaro, Clara was born on September 7, 1923 in Little Italy. She attended Washington Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High, and San Diego High School. During WWII, Clara worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" for Consolidated AirCraftt, building the cockpits of B-52 bombers for the war effort. In June 1946 she married Louis Vattuone, and they shared 54 wonderful years. They had four children: Maria Iraci (Matthew), Catherine de los Rios (Arthur), Louis Vattuone (Suzanne) and Roseann Vattuone. Generous in heart and spirit, she served as president of the Washington School's PTA and was a member of the Children of Mary, the Rosary Society and the Guild at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Little Italy. Nonna Clara was a remarkable woman, who deeply loved her family, her community and her church and always enjoyed a strong cup of coffee and a good piece of pie. Generous and kind with a fun loving spirit, she welcomed everyone into her home, and her heart. Travel, cooking and being surrounded by her family brought her great joy. She celebrated her last Christmas in her home with 45 family members and friends. We will cherish the time we had with her. She is survived by her four children, nine grandchildren, Catherine Iraci, Maria Iraci, Anna Tirsbier (Robert), Gina Vattuone (Jon Maes), Diana de los Rios (Nick Santillan), Andrea Corry (Keith), Julianna Barone, Elena Hood (Michael), and Jonathon Barone (Chelsea) and five great-grandchildren, Donovan Maes, Ameila Hood, Alexander Hood, Anya Corry, and Ezra Corry. We love your mom! "Goodnight, sleep tight, and don't let the bed bugs bite." The Rosary and Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church on Monday, December 28th, at 9:00 a.m. followed by entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Noah Homes, 12526 Campo Road, Spring Valley, CA 91978.
