Dr. Clyde W. Dorn

DORN, DR. CLYDE W. Dr. Clyde W. Dorn, a longtime resident of East County, died unexpectedly on March 2, 2003. Dr. Dorn practiced dentistry in La Mesa for nearly 50 years and was one of the founders of La Mesa Medical Center. He was also a longtime member and at one time was President of the La Mesa Exchange Club. Dr. Dorn was born and raised in Wapello, Iowa and was attending college when World War II broke out. He enlisted in the Navy and was accepted into flight school and became a Naval Aviator. During the war he was assigned to the Pacific theater earning Asia and Philippine Pacific Ribbons and he was awarded a World War II Victory Medal. Following his discharge, he completed college and attended dental school at Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska, graduating in 1950. Following graduation he re-enlisted in the Navy where he completed an internship until his discharge in 1952. He remained in the Naval Reserves rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander while building up his private dental practice in La Mesa. Dr. Dorn is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kay, daughters, Beth Marx of Lakeside and Susan Franz of La Mesa, and sons Steve Dorn of New Mexico and Don Gayton of Jamul, and five grandchildren, Ashley and Angela Marx, Kailyn Franz, Shelby and Casey Gayton. A private memorial will be held for family and close friends.
