David Alpert Obituary

David Alpert from Encinitas, California was born November 13, 1923, and passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on May 11, 2022, at the age of 98. David was born in Fall River, Massachusetts as the oldest of three children to Jack and Jessie Alpert. When David was two, Jack and Jessie moved the family to Los Angeles, California. David enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1944 and during the time he was stationed in Florida, he met his beloved, Annette Mendelson. It was love at first sight, and they were married only months after, on May 19, 1946. They began their life together in Los Angeles, where David entered UCLA and studied accounting. After receiving his Master's degree, he achieved his goal of becoming a CPA. During these years, Annette and David had 5 five children. Their life-changing move to San Diego in 1958 brought many opportunities. Along with the addition of twin boys born in 1959, David became active within his professional and religious communities. As managing partner in his CPA firm, Steres, Alpert and Carne, he became a very well-respected CPA within the San Diego area and served on several local and state CPA boards. Within the Jewish community, David served as President of Temple Beth Israel, the United Jewish Federation, as well as board membership for the San Diego Hebrew Home and several committees for Seacrest Village Retirement Communities. Additionally, he was an instrumental founding member of Temple Solel in Encinitas. Outside of his religious affiliations, he became a lifetime founding member of the Reuben H Fleet Space Museum in San Diego.

David is survived by his brother, Sidney Alpert, his children, Dona, and her husband Fred McKee, Stanley, Geoffrey, and his wife Kikue, Carole and her husband Greg Hall, and Thomas; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren and a very large extended family. David also leaves behind his loving partner of 11 years, Alice Morawetz. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 64 years, Annette, daughter Evelyn and son Steven.

One of David's mottos was, "Think before you speak; once said, the word is out". He remained true to his beliefs that honesty, integrity, and tolerance are extremely important, which is why he steered clear of politics!

Services on Monday, May 16, 2022, at El Camino Memorial Park.

Memorials for the community are planned for Seacrest Village in Encinitas on Thursday, May 19 at 10:00 a.m. and at Temple Solel in Encinitas on Thursday, May 26 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are made in memory of David, to the Seacrest Foundation, Temple Solel Alpert-Mendelson Library in Encinitas, Lightbridge hospice or any hospice of your choice.

Our deepest condolences to all of you. How well we remember being at your family´s pool with all the children and some of the grandchildren. Since we too are aged and in our nineties memories of the past friendships linger on. David and Annette were very special people and we and our daughters shared many years together.
