Don was a successful builder and developer -- but what made him a good man is that he shared his successes with us. I remember many fun times at his Julian Ranch... and his legacy is the fond memories he left us with because of that generosity. My thoughts are with you...

Susan, I remember your dad well from the time we were teenagers and young adults, when we were roommates and your wedding . . .and all my memories are of a very nice dad, who was always welcoming and helpful. I have no current address for you, but want to extend my sympathy to you and your family for the loss of your dad and the boys' grandfather. I know he will be greatly missed.
Blessings to all of you,

I have some fond memories of Don, as he sat infront of me at the SD Charger football games. Getting off to a bad start with him many years ago (by me kicking his seat when I crossed my legs), we finally became charger fan friends, and I will miss his friendly smiles and chats over Sunday football games. Blessings to his wife and family. "Rhonda"

Dear Doris,Susan,Donna and family,
It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to you today. I will miss Don very much. He was such a kind and generous friend to all of us, but especially my Mom and Dad. Not a week went by that he did not check in with them and then later, after my Dad died, he and Doris always were there for my Mom. Our family is blessed to have known him and to have been touched by his wonderful spirit. My Dad had a nickname for Don, "Black Cloud" because Don was such a realist and smart business man and my Dad was the eternal optimist and risk taker. Together they achieved great things and I know they are enjoying a good laugh right now up in heaven! God bless you all as you go through this difficult time. I will remember Don with love and affection and I will forever hear him say "Hi Kat" whenever we would meet.
Much Love and Sympathy,

Don Tusch is known as a builder and developer but he built more than wood and concrete structures. He built people and communities. We met when I was a high school kid dating his daughter and we kept our friendship for forty years. During collage there was always a summer job somewhere building something. I now realize that the odd jobs I did became progressively more complicated, teaching me carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, and finish painting skills. I also learned planning, estimating, facility maintenance and quality assurance skills that I continue to use today. I didn’t know it at the time, but he was also teaching me how to learn unknown skills and how best to teach others so they could help themselves. By his example of joining in community activities I learned the satisfaction of participating in, or leading, professional community groups. Over the years when I’ve returned to San Diego for a visit and done various home handyman projects for my family, Don was there with a contact to get the special hardware I needed. It seemed as if his contact community was endless.
With Don’s passing, the world has lost one of its truly nice guys. I suspect that I’m not alone when I say that I’m a better person for having been able to count Don Tusch as having been my friend. And the community he helped build, which I am lucky enough to have had a small role in, will continue to benefit from the values he instilled within us. Thanks Don. You will always be remembered.
