Dear Craig, Doug, and Jean,
Mike Gronfein sent me this news and I wanted to write and express my condolences. I think of your family much more than you might imagine. I remember fondly so many times visiting the Family MacDonald after school in the 1960's (and that sometimes mean German Shepherd). Years later, I remember Donald quite vividly at some event (I don't where or when exactly) in the mid 1970's because we were discussing travels to Mexico and Central America...especially Panama. He asked if I "really" spoke Spanish and tested me by asking how to say "start the pump" (apparently a phrase he heard everyday for years down there. I still remember his bemused expression when I replied, "Arranca la bomba". Can't recall the context but I sure have recalled that moment and how much fun we had laughing at that. Craig, I wish you would come back sometime for a visit here in Santa Barbara so we can catch up. I understand that the memorial for your father is tomorrow and I wish I were in San Diego to attend. But I will think of you through the day and vibe best wishes your way. Your friend from so many years ago,
Jeff Chemnick

I only knew Don through SAIC. My memory is of a very unassuming fellow, but very competent. He introduced me to project management tools; Dynaplan was the most comprehensive one I ever met!

We knew Don from our association with him at SAIC. I first met Don when we were working on a proposal to manage the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository Project in Nevada. The defining moment in our oral presentation and subsequent win was when he leaned forward and said to the board "....and it even speaks in the English language" and the entire DOE Source Evaluation Board got up and went to the huge layout of his DYNAPLAN presentation of the Project Schedule and were amazed at how easy it was to understand. He worked very hard every day and contributed across a broad area of the project. He was a great person who never complained and will be missed.

I knew Mr. Macdonald through Miki and Partners in Health. We are so grateful for his generosity. He has provided for the care and support of hundreds of nurses. This has had a huge impact on the healthcare system in the north east region of Nicaragua. His kindness will be missed but his impact will be felt for years to come.

To Jean MacDonald and Family,
I was very sorry to learn of Donald's death. In every repect he was an outstanding, loving and devoted husband as well as a carng, supportive father to his children, grand children and great grand children.
He was an attentive care giver to his lovely wife Jean as she struggled (struggles still) with health issues. But he was most special in his assistance to my mother and his needful neighbor Genevieve Haiman. He dutifully took out her trash cans on trash day until his own health prohibited that. On numerous occasions, day and night, he was the first responder when my mother fell in her house and needed help or hospitilization by the paramedics. I am sure that he saved her life several times over the years! You could not ask for a better neighbor and a sweeter man than "Mac". He will be sorely missed by his family and his neighbors in Del Cerro.
On behalf of my brother Richard and my mother Genevieve, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolances to Jean and her family for their loss. May God bless and keep you as I know he does Donald.
Sincerely,
Steve Haiman

My best memories of Uncle Donald included listening to him expound about investing. He had a "fire in the belly" for knowing as much as possible and making informed choices. Although I would certainly classify him as a lucky man, it's hard to say where luck ended and dogged perseverance took over. Donald took his responsibilities very seriously but he was proud of each of his sons and their families, as well as being absolutely and joyously devoted to my beloved Aunt Jeannie. "A life well lived" is the greatest legacy we can hope for. Donald achieved that, and more. My love to the entire Clan Macdonald! Jennifer
