Doris Barnes Obituary

Doris (Dodds) Barnes December 17, 1932 - August 4, 2018 EL CAJON The heart and soul of our family. Doris passed away on August 4, 2018 in the house she loved surrounded by her loving family. She loved the Lord and her family. She led by example and service. She was a Bible study leader for many years. Doris could attend her children events and have dinner on time. She took great pride in her children.Doris was born on December 17, 1932 in Kansas. She was the second to last of 11 children born to Alfred and Beulah Dodds. Being from such a large family taught her that hard work paid off. She was a member of the Greatest Generation. Her parents and six siblings came to San Diego in 1943 looking for work.In 1949 she meet Dean at the Christian Church of San Diego, they were the first couple to be married there. In 1954 Mike was born followed by Gregg (1956) an Jan (1962).In later years she loved to shop for antiques, decorated her house and took care of grandchildren. Some would wonder why after raising her own, she would respond "These children are special to me and I cherish time with them". She was rewarded with their everlasting love. Although we all miss her, we know the pains of this world are gone and she is being taken care of by God, who she loved so much. Her husband Dean passed away in 2009. She is survived by sons, Mike (Cindy), Gregg, and daughter Jan (Bill); grandchildren, Richard, Katelyn, Paige, Brooke, and Ashley; great-grandson, Dalton (on his way); her brother Jack and numerous nieces and nephews. Thanks to Noreen and Eloina for there care. Special thanks to Theresa who took great care of Doris for the last year of her life, and provided support for us during this difficult time.
