Edward Moneypenny Obituary

Edward James Moneypenny OCEANSIDE /CARLSBAD -- Edward James Moneypenny, 88, died Sunday, February 6, 2011, due to complications from surgery. Born in California, Ed and Mary Jane settled in Oceanside and Carlsbad. Ed's friendships, traveling companions, sailing friends, and Marine buddies truly enriched his life. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Jane; three daughters, Jan, Gale, and Denise; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Ed joined the Marines in 1941, at the start of WWII. He served in some of the fiercest fighting in the Pacific, including Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, Chinwangtao, North China. A Marine Memorial will be at 2 p.m., Friday, February 25, at Camp San Mateo, on Camp Pendleton. Exit from the North 5 at San Onofre Gate. Proceed East to the ITT bldg., make a left, heading North to the San Mateo area. Pass the gas station. Building next to the fire station is where the ceremony will be held. To the family of Ed...sorry to hear of his passing..I worked at the "hungry hunter" restaurant for several years,several years ago..Ed would come in with his group,and was always the most pleasant and friendly person..he always remembered names,was easy to talk to,and was down to earth..I always remember him too,with the popcorn wagon.he'll be missed by many...r.I.p.,Ed..
