Eric Mitchell January 9, 1971 - February 19, 2022 SAN DIEGO
On the evening of February 19, 2022, Eric Mitchell died at the age of 51 after a four-year fight against cancer.
Born to Linda Mitchell in 1971, Eric was raised mostly in Southern California with his brother Scott. He graduated from Arcadia High School in 1989 and received a BA in Political Science from Humboldt State University in 1995. He was a member of the California State University Board of Trustees before moving to San Diego in 1997, where he began his career as a software engineer. Since 2013, he worked for LightStream and became a Software Engineering Director. He also served as a board member at the San Diego Waldorf School and Albert Einstein Academies.
Eric loved being outdoors. An avid hiker, he often camped with friends in Anza Borrego, was a member of the Sierra Club, and traveled often across California and Mexico. The only thing he loved more than hiking were his daughters. They were always his first priority, and he gave them all his love and support. Perpetually optimistic, Eric was a joy to be around; his many friends and family remember his kindness, quick wit, and boundless generosity.
Eric is survived by his daughters, Natalie and Jessica, his mother Linda, and his brother Scott. A memorial will be held on March 5, 2021; please contact the family for more information. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Eric's name to the Sierra Club.
