GEORGE R. SANFORD

SANFORD, GEORGE R. April 9, 1927 to May 29, 2012 George Robert Sanford passed away May 29, 2012 after a long illness. George was born in Brockton, Massachusetts, on April 9, 1927. He was a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island (1949) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent most of his life on the East Coast in Boston, Mass and Hartford, Ct. working for F.M. Global Insurance, first as an engineer and then as a Senior Account Executive managing industrial insurance programs for Fortune 500 companies here and abroad. He retired in 1990 at age 62 after 40 years of employment. He and his wife, Joanne, moved to San Diego in 1989 settling in Carmel Valley. He was a docent at Scripps Birch Aquarium in la Jolla for 15 years. He loved walking Torrey Pines Beach. He also enjoyed San Diego Opera, live theater, sport fishing, and travelling, including cruising the world and trips to Maui. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joanne (Cesareo) Sanford, sons Arthur Sanford, M.D. (wife, Michelle) of Carmel Valley, Brian Sanford (wife, Linnea) of Felton, CA, daughter Jane Stabile (husband, Larry) of Cambridge, Mass., and brothers Ralph Sanford of Boston, Mass and Joseph Sanford of New York City. He was predeceased by his parents Cecil and Rachel (Riberdy) Sanford, brother LeRoy Sanford, and youngest son Paul Sanford (wife, Paula). He leaves behind 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Mr. Sanford's viewing will be held at El Camino Memorial, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd., San Diego, 92121 on Thursday, May 31st, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at St. Therese of Carmel, 4355 Del Mar Trails Rd., San Diego, 92130 on Friday, June 1st, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery, 4050 Mission Ave., Oceanside, 92057 at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Scripps Birch Aquarium in La Jolla, Seasons Hospice in San Diego, or the Scripps Health Foundation in La Jolla. George was a gentle man and a gentleman and all who knew him, loved him dearly. We will miss him and will never forget him.
