Gertrude Eddy Obituary

Gertrude 'Trudy' Eddy
January 19, 1932 - October 6, 2020
San Diego
Gertrude ("Trudy" or "Gert") Julia Rabello Cisco Eddy, loving mother and proud San Diego native, passed away on October 6, 2020, at the age of 88, surrounded by her children. She loved her family, friends, animals, music, movies, good food, gardening, dancing, games of chance, and cooking. Trudy was born January 19, 1932, the youngest of 12 children (the only child born in a hospital) in a loving Portuguese family in Point Loma. She adored her siblings and was very proud of her ancestry. She loved to dance at the annual Portuguese Festa in Point Loma, one of San Diego's oldest ethnic celebrations. Trudy married her high school sweetheart Bill Cisco. Their three children Linda, Dan, and Susan, were born soon after. She later married Roland Eddy, and together they had Jennifer and Thomas. All five children were raised in and around San Diego. "Coach" Trudy worked directly with children who were housed at the San Diego County Probation Department, where she worked until retirement at age 65. She often cut the children's hair, played games, and built meaningful relationships with them. Her late dog Boo, a Maltese, was one of her favorites and a wonderful, loving companion to her. Boo died October 6, 2017, exactly three years to the day before she herself passed. Her greatest love was the ocean. She loved to swim in San Diego Bay as a child and spent a lot of time at Shelter Island and Ocean Beach. Trudy often rode the ferry to Coronado Island with her sister Florence for just 5 cents roundtrip! Later in life, she enjoyed watching the waves at Sunset Cliffs. Trudy loved to cook for her family. Deviled eggs, turkey stuffing, Chalupa, and her famous spaghetti sauce with Linguica (Portuguese sausage) were always requested by her children. Trudy is survived by her sister Mary Clifton of Encinitas; her five children Linda Cisco, Dan Cisco, Jennifer Dodero, and Tom Eddy of San Diego, CA, and Susan Hoefle of Port Orchard, WA; her six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.

I knew Trudy when I was at JH; a warm and compassionate individual that always had a smile while she was at work and interacting with the kids. My sincere condolences on her passing.
