Hilary Bader Memoriam

Hilary Bader, an award-winning television scriptwriter, died Nov. 7 in Duarte. She was 50 and lived in Los Angeles.

The cause was metastasized breast cancer, said her husband, Jay Broad.

She wrote for animated and live-action programs and was nominated seven times for a daytime Emmy Award, winning twice, for " Batman Beyond " and earlier for " The New Batman/Superman Adventures, " two animated series shown on Warner Brothers Television.

Ms. Bader was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. She attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook as a mathematics major but spent the early 1970s in Paris studying movement and mime. In the 1980s she toured the United States with Edmond Felix, a writer, dancer and costume designer, in " African Folk Tales, " a blend of stories, dance and mime.

A fan of the " Star Trek " television series in her youth, she settled in Los Angeles and became a free-lance writer for its first sequel, " Star Trek: The Next Generation. " She also wrote episodes for " Star Trek: Voyager, " " Xena: Warrior Princess, " " Silk Stalkings, " and " Lois and Clark, " among other shows.

Ms. Bader also wrote 38 comic books for DC Comics and several Web episodes of " Gotham Girls " and " Red Knuckles Gym. "

Besides her husband, Ms. Bader is survived by her mother, Evelyn Bader of Brooklyn, N.Y., and her sister, Stephanie Bader of New York City.
