Howard Weiner Obituary

Howard W. Weiner, 95, of Rancho Santa Fe, CA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at home with loving family by his side.
Howard was a first generation American, born to Russian immigrants in Marshall, MN on February 4, 1928. He was a graduate of UCLA with a degree in Business and had a very successful first career running a variety of food related businesses before he launched, later in life, what became a highly successful venture capital business.
Howard was very active in the Minneapolis community, mentoring many entrepreneurs, with a special focus on helping fledgling minority business owners to build thriving companies. He was a supporter of the arts in both Minneapolis and San Diego, and served on several boards including Mingei International Museum in San Diego.
Howard is the beloved husband of Joanne (Jo) Wolf Weiner for 68 years and is the loving father of Susan Sandler (Dennis), Fred Weiner (Elizabeth), and Janet Collins.
He was a very devoted grandfather of Tasha Dunlop, Ben Sandler, Stefanie Fishman, Jeremy Sandler, Rachel Collins, Olivia Weiner, Adam Collins, and B. Louis Weiner, as well as great-grandfather to Harper, Jaxson, Parker, and Stella.
Howard was a devoted gardener and family man. He loved nothing more than attending his grandchildren's special events, activities, and celebrations. He was also an amateur photographer and left us with thousands of wonderful photographs.
He was generous with his family and friends in every way. He was always interested to hear about a new favorite cause or project, lend an ear and give wise counsel, or simply show support when and where it was needed. He will be deeply missed, especially his dry humor, charm, and his generous and loving spirit.
There will be a private family celebration and in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice or to the Mingei International Museum in San Diego.
